| It all started a little
over a year ago when my mom's beloved
Lucky decided that he leave the nest to
start his own life. My mom was beyond
devastated. We all mourned the loss of
our kitty Lucky. To this day, we still
don't know what ever became of Lucky. My
mom and I knew that we needed another
kitty companion for our pup Yorkie "Puffy,"
and our (polydactyl) kitty Maggie. This
past summer, I decided that I was going
to check out the local SPCA animal
shelter just to see if there were any
kitties that might just strike my
attention. After looking through all the
cages and wanting to take every single
cat home, I came across this skinny
little orange kitten that was sprawled
out on top of two other kittens. I
reached in and grabbed him. From the
moment I grabbed this scrawny, not so
cute Tabby, I just knew he was the one
who would complete our family. He had the
funniest little attitude on him. He
looked at me like, "please lady, put
me down so I can go back to sleep."
He was breathtaking.
When I surprised my mom with him two
days later after he was neutered, she was
astonished to see that I hadn't picked a
gorgeous little kitten, but instead an
awkward little character. My niece Joslyn
was in love with the orange saber tooth
on the movie Ice Age, so it was destined
that my new kitten would be named Diego.
Diego had the most spontaneous, happy-go-lucky
personality ever. He is now ten months
old, and he has grown into such a
handsome young cat. He is my pride and
joy. He sleeps at night right next to me,
and he'll reach out to feel for me if I
am not there. Diego has really taken a
liking to soccer. If there is anything
that rolls or slides, he is all over the
kitchen with it for hours at a time.
Sometimes he will even fall asleep where
he drops from exhaustion. Diego is the
most laid back, gentle, non-begging
animal we have ever had. My niece
literally lays on top of him to hug him
and kiss him, and he takes in every bit
of the love he can get.
About a month ago, Diego had gone out
to play early in the evening, but never
returned home when I went out to get him.
I cried all night and the entire next day.
My mom, dad, and my sister were so upset
over this. We prayed, called for him,
asked neighbors, we did everything
possible. 24-hrs later, I was in my room
when I heard his little bell ringing. He
has a collar with a red bow tie, and on
it, he has a little bell so that I can
hear him outside. Sure enough, I ran to
the back door, and Diego ran and jumped
into my arms. He was purring
uncontrollably while I hugged and kissed
him. I was so happy I was in tears. I had
to wake everyone up just to announce the
good news. We were all so happy. That
very next day, I went out and bought all
my animals ID tags, so if they are ever
lost, at least there is a chance someone
will call me to go and pick them up.
As I finish this entry Diego sits here
on my lap just being nosey. He has a
thing for the computer and he loves to
push the buttons. Sometimes I have a hard
time getting things done with him right
on my lap. He is so close to me, his
mommy! Diego is my pride and joy and I
would surely be lost without him. I hope
that I'll have 15+ years with Diego too!
He is such a doll!
