| Sir Winston was rescued
by my group called Kitty Cat Keep Pet
Sanctuary. I've come across all
kinds of cruelty and neglect but when we
were alerted about Sir Winston it really
broke our hearts. He was found huddling
on a porch and was walking funny, with a
weird kind of limp. He was still meowing
and purring at whoever would walk by,
hoping they would give him some food. We
managed to get him into a pet carrier
very gently and to our vet. She did x-rays
on the then 5 month old kitten only to
find that there was nothing broken but
appeared to have some kind of spinal
damage. Upon further testing and
diagnosing our vet told us that he would
be okay but will walk with an odd step
for his whole life. She said that with
the kind of injury he sustained, it
looked as if someone had kicked him in
the back end and must have happened when
he was only 4 months old.
Of course, we went back to that
neighborhood only to be told that by a
person who lived there, "stuff like
that happens all the time here." We
found that out the hard way when we
rescued another kitty who had some kind
of burns in her mouth. Vet says from
either a lit cigarette or a hot lighter!
Suffice to say we have been keeping a
close eye on that street and have others
checking to see if there are any more
abused animals or strays walking around.
Sir Winston is a very beautiful,
loving cat who amazes me at how he can
still trust people. He is for adoption
and is now waiting in a foster home for
his chance at having a family of his own.
