Mildred
was part of approximately a 100 cat feral
colony being fed by an very old gentleman.
When he died all the cats apart from
Mildred were trapped and rehomed. Mildred
escaped and moved into a greenhouse at
the back of a Retirement Home a few doors
away, where the kindly residents took
pity and fed her. After many attempts,
Mildred was finally caught in a trap and
took to a lady I know, Brenda.
As I had just lost my
beloved Catkin a few weeks earlier, I was
looking for a new kitty and my Uncle took
me to see Brenda. She only had two cats
at her Rescue Shelter that week, Mildred
and another big black cat. I couldn't
leave one behind as it didn't seem fair
to give one a chance and not the other,
so I brought them both. So Mildred and
the black cat, which I named Humphrey,
came home with me. (Humphrey's is another
story)
Mildred was very unsure
when I first took her home and spent the
next three months hiding under the bed.
She was terrified of people but slowly
after much gentle coaxing and time spent
half under the bed with her, she finally
trusted me enough to come out. To see her
today, you wouldn't believe the
transformation. Whenever visitors come to
the house, she is on the front row and
loves the attention. Mildred is the most
loving cat, she doesn't just reach out
and touch you; she reaches out and furs
you! But as all you kitty lovers out
there know, no outfit is complete without
cat fur! Her favourite pastimes are,
eating, sleeping and playing with a
feather on a wand and she really loves
the bungee mouse that I have hanging from
the kitchen door frame.
Mildred is one special
little kitty as you can see from the
photo.
